Entry #4: life as a First Generation
Hey everyone, I hope you are having a wonderful day and make sure to tell your parents how much you appreciate them. As a first generation, I’ve dedicated my life to studies and trying to earn, not only my high school degree but my college degree. This is why I’m in the ace program and why I am in AP classes to get a Headstart on my college path and to be successful in life so hopefully I can be a person that changes lives, and can strive like my parents hope for. My parents are very hard-working people and I am very motivated by them and look up to them. I wish to not only to match the steps they took to have the amazing jobs they have now but to do better. As a first generation, I want to make my parents proud and because I have the ability to college unlike them.
My mom, Claudia, was an immigrant. She came to the United States when she was a baby, preventing her from getting her college degree but because of her hard work, she works for the city of Avondale now. She also is now a US citizen, officially, and was granted 2023 Code Enforcement Officer of the Year. On the other hand, my dad, David, had a kid at a very young age, and had to start working, preventing him from graduating high school, and having no time to go to college, but because of his hard work, he turned himself into a fieldworker into working corporate for Southwest gas. None of them got the chance to go to college and wish they had. They are very determined for me to go to college, earn scholarships and have a successful job so I not only can support myself but support my family. Also to live stress- free from money problems. Every day I am reminded of the hard work and their dedication and I wish to do the same and aim higher. Nowadays most jobs require at least a high school degree so I’m hoping by joining the ace program in AP classes, i am able to prepare for actual college and be able to handle and take care of myself when my parents are not around. They’ve helped me so much throughout most of my life already by giving me a roof over my head, food, and water, so in the future when I get a successful job,
Hi Tatiana! Can I just start off by saying that your mom is absolutely stunning! Like wow, I would've definitely thought she was your sister/cousin if you didn't clarify that. But anyways, I've always found stories like your parents so inspiring! It's amazing to see how strong and resilient people can be. I love seeing people with healthy relationships with their parents, and I also hope that one day I can be successful enough to give my parents the world. Good luck on your journey! -Taliah M.
ReplyDeleteHey Tatiana! Your blog speaks on a topic that I feel I can relate to on the aspect of my parents not being able to fulfill their dreams in exchange of giving me a better life and also the feeling that I want to make them proud for all they've done for me. It really is a motivation to keep pushing through our education and to make it all worth it- not only for us, but for them as well. - Bricely A
ReplyDeleteHi! I really enjoyed reading your blog post. I related to a lot of what you had to say. I am also a first generation American in my family. I share the same desires to succeed, do well in school, and pay back those I love. Good luck on your education journey! - Fatima Alshareh
